Michael Berkowitz’s lyrically and rhythmically driven songs are, in the words of Scott Moore, "reminiscent of early works by We’re About 9 or Dave Carter." Based in Laurel, MD by way of Reston, VA, Columbia, MD and Oberlin, OH, Michael has become an active member of the Washington DC/Baltimore live music scene, as a performer and occasional open mic host, sharing stages with local and touring acts such as ilyAIMY, We’re About 9, the Jason Spooner Trio and Annie Gallup.
In November 2007 Michael made his first appearance at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) Conference as part of the Folk DJ’s Choice Showcase, and in February 2008 he released his first full-length CD, “A Song For Every Station.” Produced by Jeff Romano (Paul Curreri, Devon Sproule, Dave Matthews), the CD features performances by Pat Wictor, Cheryl Prashker, and We’re About 9.
In July 2008, Michael won third place in the Great Waters Folk Festival Songwriting Contest for his song "Fisherman's Daughter."
